Athletics Overview
Black Hawk College competes in the NCCAA, a smaller Christian athletic association that emphasizes character development alongside competition. With 145 total athletes out of 2,266 students, about 6.4% of the student body participates in varsity sports. The Braves field teams in eight different sports, creating opportunities for student-athletes without the pressure of major college athletics. Athletic scholarships total $290,243, providing modest financial support compared to larger programs. As a community college, Black Hawk focuses on giving local talent a chance to continue playing while pursuing their education. The athletic program serves the dual purpose of school pride and student engagement in the Quad Cities area, where community college sports help bridge the gap between high school and potential four-year transfers.
