Athletics Overview
Chaffey College competes as an independent program outside the major conference structure, fielding 14 varsity sports teams. The Panthers draw 332 student-athletes, representing about 2.4% of the total enrollment of 13,568 students. Independent status means the college schedules games individually rather than following a set conference schedule, which can create both flexibility and challenges in finding consistent competition. The athletic program operates without scholarship funding, focusing on providing competitive opportunities for local students. Chaffey's athletic tradition dates back decades in the Inland Empire, where the Panthers have built rivalries with other regional community colleges. The relatively small athletic participation rate reflects the school's primary mission as an academic transfer institution serving the diverse Rancho Cucamonga community.
