Claflin University Athletics

Claflin competes in NCAA Division II, which offers athletic scholarships while maintaining a balance between academics and sports without the intense pressure of Division I programs. The Panthers field 11 varsity sports and distribute $837,821 in athletic scholarships across their teams. Only 134 students participate in varsity athletics, representing just 7.8% of the 1,727-student body. The university competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, a historically black conference that includes traditional rivals like South Carolina State and Benedict College. Claflin has built a reputation for competitive basketball programs and strong track and field teams.
