Athletics Overview

Hofstra competes in NCAA Division I, meaning serious athletic competition with full scholarships and the potential for packed stadiums during big games. The Pride fields 17 varsity teams with 390 total athletes, representing about 6% of the 6,155-student body. The university distributes $10.9 million in athletic scholarships across its programs. Hofstra plays in the Coastal Athletic Association and maintains a cross-Long Island rivalry with Stony Brook University. The school has built a respectable Division I presence since moving up from Division II in the 1990s. Basketball games at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex can generate solid campus energy. While not a powerhouse athletic program, Hofstra offers students the full Division I experience with competitive teams and the opportunity to compete at college sports' highest level.
