Athletics Overview
Immaculata competes in NCAA Division III, where sports focus on personal development rather than professional preparation and athletes receive no athletic scholarships. With 320 total athletes out of 1,265 students, roughly 25% of the campus participates in varsity sports across 21 different teams. The Mighty Macs play in the Atlantic East Conference and carry legendary basketball heritage from their women's team that won three consecutive national championships in the 1970s under coach Cathy Rush. That era transformed women's college basketball and inspired the 2011 film "The Mighty Macs." The program helped establish Immaculata as a pioneer in women's athletics long before Title IX expanded opportunities nationwide. Today's athletes balance rigorous academics with competition while maintaining the school's tradition of athletic excellence rooted in determination and teamwork.
