Athletics Overview
Ithaca College competes in NCAA Division III, where sports focus on personal growth rather than big-time athletics. The Bombers field 27 varsity teams with no athletic scholarships available. About 16% of the 4,350 students participate in varsity athletics across the Liberty League conference. Division III emphasizes the student-athlete experience over commercial sports entertainment. The college has built a solid athletic tradition despite competing at the non-scholarship level. Football games against nearby Cortland State create one of the fiercest rivalries in Division III, known as the Cortaca Jug game that regularly draws massive crowds. The wrestling program has produced multiple national champions over the years. Students can compete seriously while maintaining academic focus as their primary mission.
