Athletics Overview
Lane College competes in NCAA Division II, where athletics blend competitive play with academic focus and offer athletic scholarships. The Dragons field 12 varsity sports and distribute over $1 million in athletic scholarships annually. With 237 total athletes among 822 students, about 29% of the campus participates in varsity athletics. The Dragons compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference alongside other historically black colleges. Lane has built a reputation in football and basketball within HBCU athletics. Division II allows the school to maintain competitive programs while emphasizing the student-athlete experience over the big-budget spectacle of Division I. The athletic program serves as a key recruiting tool and source of campus pride for this small Tennessee HBCU.
