Athletics Overview

The Ramblers compete in NCAA Division I, where athletic scholarships and serious competition define the experience. Only 1.9% of Loyola's 11,576 students are varsity athletes across 11 sports programs. The school awards $6.6 million in athletic scholarships annually to support these 216 student-athletes. Loyola competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference alongside schools like VCU and Davidson. The basketball program gained national attention with its stunning Final Four run in 2018, capturing hearts with an unlikely tournament run led by 98-year-old team chaplain Sister Jean. Cross-town rival DePaul provides natural competition in Chicago. While not a traditional sports powerhouse, Loyola has built respectable programs in basketball and soccer. The lakefront campus creates a unique backdrop for athletic events near Lake Michigan.
