Athletics Overview
Mountain Gateway fields seven varsity sports through the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association), a faith-based division that emphasizes character development alongside competition. Just 28 students compete as Roadrunners athletes, representing only 6% of the 457-student campus. The NCCAA operates at a level between NAIA and intramural sports, offering structured competition without the intensity of major college athletics. No athletic scholarships are awarded, keeping the focus on academic achievement and personal growth rather than recruiting. The small athletic program reflects the college's rural setting in Clifton Forge, where outdoor recreation often takes precedence over organized sports. With such a tiny student body, games create tight-knit community events where athletes know most spectators personally.
