Athletics Overview
Our Lady of the Lake competes at the NAIA level, which sits between NCAA Division II and Division III in terms of competitiveness and recruiting. The Saints field 19 varsity sports with 500 total athletes, meaning about 45% of the student body participates in athletics. The university awards $1.68 million in athletic scholarships annually. NAIA schools typically offer a more intimate athletic experience than major Division I programs while still providing meaningful competition and scholarship opportunities. The Saints compete in the Red River Athletic Conference alongside other small private universities across Texas and neighboring states. With nearly half the campus involved in athletics, sports culture plays a significant role in student life despite the school's small enrollment of just 1,110 students.
