Athletics Overview

Purdue Northwest competes in NCAA Division II, which offers athletic scholarships but maintains a balance between competition and academics. The Pride fields 17 varsity sports with 307 total athletes, meaning about 5.3% of the student body participates in varsity athletics. The university awards $1.16 million in athletic scholarships annually. As a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Pride competes against other regional universities across the Midwest. Founded in 2016 through a merger of Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central, the athletic program is still building its identity and traditions. The relatively new program focuses on providing competitive opportunities for student-athletes while serving the northwest Indiana community that has long supported Purdue athletics.
