Athletics Overview
The Falcons compete in the NAIA Lone Star Conference, which offers a middle ground between Division I intensity and Division III's purely recreational approach. Student-athletes receive $2.5 million in scholarships across 14 varsity sports. About 8.4% of the 4,122 students participate in athletics, creating a tight-knit community where athletes are visible on campus. The program emphasizes both competition and academics, fitting the university's mission of serving working professionals in the oil-rich Permian Basin. As a relatively young athletic program established alongside the university's growth, UTPB focuses on building competitive teams while maintaining the flexibility that busy, career-focused students need. The Lone Star Conference features regional rivals from across Texas and surrounding states.
