Athletics Overview
The Jimmies compete in NAIA Division I, which offers athletic scholarships while maintaining a more personal, community-focused sports atmosphere than NCAA Division I. With 544 total athletes out of 947 students, an impressive 57% of the campus participates in varsity sports. The university fields 16 varsity teams and awards over $6.7 million in athletic scholarships annually. UJ competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, known for competitive regional rivalries across the upper Midwest. The high percentage of student-athletes reflects the school's commitment to integrating athletics into campus life rather than treating sports as separate entertainment. This creates a tight-knit athletic community where teammates often know each other across different sports, and game attendance feels more like supporting friends than watching strangers perform.
