Athletics Overview
The Bears compete in NAIA athletics, which offers a middle ground between major college sports and purely recreational play with athletic scholarships available but smaller crowds than Division I. With 532 athletes among 1,140 total students, nearly 47% of the campus participates in varsity sports. The university fields 23 varsity teams and awards $3.5 million in athletic scholarships annually. This creates an unusually athletic campus culture for a small Kentucky university. The Bears compete in the Mid-South Conference against regional rivals. While not known for powerhouse programs, the high participation rate means athletics play a central role in campus life. The small size allows walk-ons and multi-sport athletes to thrive in ways impossible at larger universities.
