Athletics Overview
The Wolves compete in NAIA athletics, offering a mid-level sports experience between Division I powerhouses and recreational Division III programs. With 145 athletes out of 2,788 total students, about 5.2% of the campus participates in varsity athletics. The university fields 16 varsity sports programs and distributes $187,200 in athletic scholarships across its teams. As part of the University of Puerto Rico system, the Arecibo campus maintains regional rivalries with other UPR campuses, particularly during basketball and volleyball seasons when island pride runs high. The athletic program serves the northern coastal region of Puerto Rico, giving local students opportunities to compete at the collegiate level while staying close to home. NAIA membership allows the Wolves to offer meaningful scholarships while maintaining academic focus.
