University of the Pacific Athletics

Pacific competes in NCAA Division I, meaning serious athletic competition with full scholarships and recruiting. The Tigers field 17 varsity sports and award over $7 million in athletic scholarships annually. With 313 total athletes among 3,247 students, nearly 10% of the campus participates in varsity athletics. Pacific plays in the West Coast Conference alongside schools like Gonzaga and Saint Mary's. The basketball program has historically been the school's strongest sport, reaching the NCAA tournament multiple times and producing NBA players. The football program was discontinued in 1995 due to financial constraints, which remains unusual for a Division I school. Water polo and volleyball have also found success at the conference level. The relatively small enrollment creates an intimate game-day atmosphere where student-athletes are campus celebrities.
