But the typical graduate earns around $43,000 ten years out, which is solid for eastern Kentucky and thin if you plan to leave the region.

Your major decides everything here. Nursing is the clear winner, paying near $60,000, and the engineering technology and allied health tracks land in the mid-to-high $50,000s. These are the programs where the price pays off fast. Management information systems trails the pack in the mid-$40,000s, closer to the school-wide median, so the payoff is slower even though it costs the same to attend.

The real risk is finishing. Under half of students graduate, and only about seven in ten come back after the first year. If you borrow and leave without the degree, you carry the debt without the nursing or engineering salary that justifies it.
